Just wanted to let you know that I spoke with Alicia and everyone in the villages we served have not been affected by the volcano eruption however the villages around the volcano have been evacuated. Also there is heavy ash all over Guatemala City, so much so that the airport has been closed.
ReplyDeleteApparently the Department that monitors the volcanos said around 3pm there was a change in underground activity. This was announced and immediately journalists went to the volcano for pictures etc. At 7pm it erupted. There are missing people, however the no. is not yet known and many of them are thought to be journalists. Right now the news is saying 1 has been killed and several missing which a second source is saying were children aged 7-12 yrs of age.
If I get any further information I will pass it along.
I guess we'll be looking for another volcano tour for our next trip!
